Vision & Culture

Fundamental to the Dream Palace vision, we will seek out exchanges with local cultural institutions and the Cairo underground. keeping our ears to the ground, our work is to dream with the land with deep listening and intention, to connect, express and dream with each place we visit.

Dreamaturgy
Daisy Campbell, Kate Aldertson, Leslie Claire

Dream Palace is inspired by the ongoing research on a methodology of creating work we have playfully coined as “Dreamaturgy” largely inspired by an escapade from Cerne Abbes to CERN in which collective dreaming was implemented to write the script. We continue to explore this methodology and study deep structural processes to understand how to engage with collective dreaming in order to create artworks from dreams. Read more here.

Guided tours and
local exploration

Guided tours by our carefully chosen local guides who will be on hand to show us the key places that arrive through our dreaming together. He can also help residents organize excursions in their own time.

Dream Share
Jussi Brightmore

Dream Share was developed in the Dream Palace Athens residency. A participatory audio artwork that utilised MIT Media Lab studies into hypnagogia to create an immersive sound performance that invoked and sustained a hypnagogic dreaming state in participants. Participants reported vivid dreams and even out-of-body experiences. Jussi is now evolving this work for Dream Palace Cairo, incorporating the cultural specifics of the location.

Inner Work

Kate Alderton
Dream tending and preparation.

We will begin by holding a few virtual dreaming matrices with our dream tender Kate Alderton starting from mid november. This will allow us to start dreaming together and perhaps discover which key places we want to visit in Cairo and beyond.

Katy Noura Butler
Local Hostess and Researcher

Our hostess, Katy Noura Butler will host us in her dynamic home overlooking the pyramids in Giza. She will also share her research incorporating ancient Egyptians bodies and their relationships to Ancient Egyptian Mythology .

Evan Root
Awareness Circles

Daily group work in Awareness and dreaming. Awareness is a pillar of dream palace as it is key to the embodiment of consciousness and therefore dreaming.

This work has become a key ingredient to Dreamaturgy process and understanding the group dreaming body and a literal buidling block of the dream palace. This allows the indivisual to break down individual sense impressions and expand the senses to that of a collective mind where the lines between the inner and outer start to blur into a more non dualistic state of consciousness.

Kamelia McKayed
Doom yoga

Irish Egyptian Artist and Yogi Kamelia McKayed, Director of the visionary Doom Yoga will provide yoga nidra sessions and new moon and full moon meditations to book end the entire residency.

As the Dream Palace assembles itself from the woven insights of artistic, philosophical, and dramaturgical experimentation, Yoga Nidra becomes a connecting thread, uniting the historical wisdom of dreaming with a modern understanding of the mind. Artists can explore how the images and ideas gathered in deep relaxation resonate with the science of dreaming, offering new interpretations that integrate cultural archetypes, symbolic language, and historical dream theory.
